Internet Marketing – The Truth You May Not Want To Hear

I will be brutally honest with you … no promises, no bs … just plain simple truth. When it comes to marketing your small business, you really need to stop believing what all the “top internet retailers”, tell him to do and start educating yourself.

The promotion and management of a small business is not easy … is much more difficult than you can imagine. Sure there are companies that start up and takeoff in a few months, but those are few and far between. For the average small business owner, there are a lot of hard work, long hours, learning, assessment, “no” and try again.

Most first-time entrepreneurs, begin marketing their businesses by:

1. Placing an ad in your local newspaper in February. The distribution of flyers in your neighborhood

And I guess one of these strategies works best? In most cases either! And want to know why? For unless a person who reads the newspaper or pamphlet is looking for a particular service or product at this time, they pull the ad directly to the trash. Do not believe me? Think of how many ads in newspapers have cut out recently and how many flyers you saved for future reference.

If you’ve been in business for a while, certainly have met people who have committed themselves to promote your business, and some have even promised certain results. But can be delivered? My guess is that the answer is “no.”

Unfortunately, most people experience this … that the hand of your hard earned money to sellers who promise to make your business an overnight success … and when that does not happen, employers are discouraged and blame the marketing company to “rip them off.”

The main problem is marketing companies are often over-promising and under delivery. Even if they do get decent results in most cases, the owner of the business has very high expectations … either of their own making, or as a result of glossy brochures marketing company.

If you have found a company that is giving good return on your investment, stick with them until you’re not getting results.

You need to stop blaming others for not delivering the results you expect. If something does not work, after having given a fair chance, go ahead. Do not throw more money at it, thinking it will get better. If it does not work (although it is working for your competitor) does not work. Do not over-analyze and get to work – there are so many other things to try.

I can not tell you how many times have I heard:

I have no time to do that, “I have to run the business and the need to take care of everything, I have a family to look after, my husband supports me, my elderly parents need help, English is not my mother tongue

…. yes I’m listening … we all have something that keeps us busy.

In most cases, people use, not excuses such because they have no time to do their marketing, but because I do not know what to do, even if they do, are afraid of failure.

Give it a go of things … What if you mess up … you will learn much about business, about you and about people and who knows you may even have a little fun in the process.

Forget to do things the way you always have done and because others in your industry are doing. Follow your instincts. If, for example writing articles (no matter how scary it may seem now) It feels like a great marketing strategy for your business, you owe it to learn as much as possible. Do not underestimate because they do not know how it works and because you think you can not write.

So if you’re wondering what to do now … pick up a book or an ebook on internet marketing and start reading and testing different marketing strategies … there are plenty available online or at your local bookstore. Internet trends and technology are changing so rapidly that if you do not plug in at least a little, you will stand behind, wondering what happened.

If you read to the end of this article … congratulations … I know that may have touched a few nerves. The truth is they want your business to succeed and who promises something that is not realistic, is not going to help.
